The Slat Spacing & Warranty Index
Slat spacing is the specification most likely to void a mattress warranty. Most foam and memory-foam warranties specify a maximum gap of about 3 inches, and some require 2.5 inches for thicker builds. Wider gaps let foam sag into the openings, and manufacturers routinely list that as improper support — grounds to deny a claim on a mattress that failed exactly as the frame allowed.

- These are warranty terms, not physics. The figures reflect what mattress manufacturers commonly specify, and the governing number is always the one in your own mattress's warranty.
- Ranges are recorded as ranges because manufacturers differ, particularly for thicker foam builds.
- We do not name individual warranties as universal - terms change and vary by product line and model year.
- We have not tested any frame. No figure here is our own measurement.
- Versioning. v1.0 published July 30, 2026. The version-pinned CSV will not change; corrections ship as a new version with a dated note.
